Pink Confinement is a new Docuseries about Women's Lives Before and After Prison

Introduction: The Challenges of Female Inmates in the United States

Miranda was in the military and after separating she was faced with all types of challenges and barriers that would snowball and lead her to be incarcerated. In an interview on the Transform U Live Show, a podcast hosted by Marcus Hart, she reveals a brand new docuseries she is working on about several women with similar experiences.

The Pink Confinement Docuseries is a documentary series that explores the challenges of female inmates in the United States. The docuseries were created by two women who were incarcerated. They are both now out of prison and are using their experiences to help others.

Women are overrepresented in our prisons, accounting for only 6% of prisoners but comprising 33% of suicides. They also are more likely to be sexually assaulted while incarcerated and upon release face higher rates of homelessness and unemployment.

This docuseries is an important step towards raising awareness about these issues and creating change.

The Necessity of Women Prison Stories

Women in prison face a number of challenges. They are more likely to be sexually assaulted, suffer from mental health issues and have substance abuse problems.

In the United States, women make up about 7% of the total prison population. These numbers are increasing with about 90% of that increase being due to nonviolent offenses.

It is estimated that 1 in 3 women will experience sexual assault during their lifetime, and this rate is even higher for female inmates. This can lead to serious mental health issues like PTSD and depression which can be difficult to manage while incarcerated.

Women also face many challenges when they get out of prison as well: they are less likely than men to find employment, they have a harder time finding housing, and they are more likely to end up homeless.

The Importance of Female Perspective on a Topic Related to Women's Experiences

In the past, women have been largely absent from history. Their voices were not heard and their stories were not told. This is changing with the advent of the internet and social media platforms. Women are now able to share their stories and connect with one another in a way that has never been possible before.

Miranda was fortunate to be a military veteran and be able to utilize some of the services for mental and physical health treatment after serving her sentence.
