Critical Quebec bill to cause divisiveness and a separatist approach
by Marcus Hart
The English speaking ability of many Quebecers is now being threatened with a critical bill that is being passed. This bill not only pushes French-speaking Quebec citizens ahead of the English-speaking ones, but it is also stripping away important funding for institutions that are English-speaking. The propaganda in the Quebec media has been in support of the new bill and the language has been very divisive. There is no help for the citizens and the message they hear is that they are not welcomed there.
Giovanni, a health worker (social service technician) and founder of the advocacy group “Our Bilingual Quebec/Canada: No to Bill 96 & C-32” which was formed to sound the alarm about Quebec’s Bill 96, a Canadian province’s proposed law which severely threatens human and civil rights. The advocacy group exists to be a voice to the issue worldwide. Giovanni interviewed on The Transform U Live Show with Marcus Hart to bring public light to the plaguing issue in Quebec. "They have used illegal search and seizures to come into our health facilities to take our computers and to look into our personal files and data..."
Anglo-phone citizens have been ignored in spaces that matter. Funds that were once intended for all schools are now being diverted to French-only schools because of Bill 96. Physicians will be charged and punished the same way a rapist would be if they aren't French speakers. The idea behind this bill is to preserve the "mother-tongue" of the land. Imagine for a minute that once Americans travel to the destination they will not be welcomed or allowed to relocate to become a temporary or permanent resident.
It is very scary for a government to have this much power to abuse and threaten the civil liberties of its citizens. This could easily be duplicated across the world and the potential for more dictators or governments led completely by a special interest group could grab the power from its people in democracies. The federal government of Canada has not taken any action to help the English-speaking citizens of Quebec. They are refusing simply because of the election that Quebec is ongoing and doesn't want to interfere which could result in the province having just cause to separate.
